Mbuya | Major General Moses Rwakitarate, the Coordinator for National Vital Assets and Strategic Installations, took office on July 1.
He assumed office as the chairman of the newly established Implementation Committee for the Uganda National Military Museum.
He succeeds Major General Henry Masiko, the Joint Staff – Political Commissariat leader who oversaw the project team.
The Chief of Joint Staff, Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, who presided over the function at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya, praised the project team for their efforts in establishing the museum.
“The museum will not only tell the history of our country but also be a source of revenue for the UPDF in the form of tourism,” said Maj Gen Bakasumba.
He pledged his full support to the new team, reminding them that the country expects a high-quality museum that meets international standards.
Maj Gen Masiko, chairperson of the outgoing project team, reported that work has progressed, and the National Military Museum will showcase Uganda’s military history from colonial times to independence, the National Resistance Army, and the current Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force.
He emphasised the museum’s strategic location in Katonga along the Masaka-Kampala Highway, which is significant in Ugandan military history due to its association with liberation battles.
The chairperson of the implementation committee praised the project’s founders, particularly the late Lt Gen Pecos Kutesa, for their good initiative and pledged to take on responsibility for the museum’s betterment.
In order to ensure the success of the museum, Maj Gen Rwakitarate urged every UPDF member to take the initiative and support the project.
