The Parliament of Uganda has approved a proposal to allocate shs30 billion to the Ministry of Education and Sports for the establishment of Karamoja Peace and Technology University (KAPATU).
KAPATU was a pledge by President Museveni to the people in Karamoja sub-region.
The approval followed the presentation of the report on the 2026/27 National Budget Framework Paper by Pian County MP Remigio Achia.
MP Achia is also the Vice Chairperson of Parliament’s Budget Committee.
Achia revealed that although the Presidential pledge was to the tune of shs30 billion as a start-up fund towards the construction of the university in the financial year 2025/2026, only shs10 billion was provided.
A balance of shs20 billion had remained which had not been provided for in the financial year 2026/2027.
KAPATU is located in Kotido, Uganda after its establishment in 2023. In November 2025, it was inaugurated to foster peace, education, and development in the Karamoja sub-region.
It has two faculties of Peace and Diplomacy and Engineering and Technology.
