The Battle Group 45 Commander, Col Justus Musenene, hosted a high-level delegation from Mogadishu in Barawe in preparation for the forthcoming elections.

The delegation, led by the State Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Amb Ilyaas Sheikh Omar, commended troops under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and the Somali National Army (SNA) for their role in maintaining peace and stability in the Barawe sub-sector.

“Thank you for making the region peaceful. You should not get tired because you are doing a great job,” Amb Ilyaas said.

He urged residents to support security agencies and take advantage of the prevailing calm to engage in socio-economic activities, while safeguarding peace and avoiding actions that could undermine stability, particularly during the election period.

Barawe District Commissioner, Umaru Abdulahi Mahammad, praised the strong cooperation and professionalism demonstrated by Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) troops under AUSSOM.

Abdulahi also highlighted the positive impact of Civil-Military Cooperation initiatives on the welfare of the local population.

Col Musenene welcomed the delegation’s engagement with the community on issues of national security and development, reaffirming the UPDF/AUSSOM commitment to sustaining peace in the area.

“It is our mandate to ensure the security of people and their property,” he said.

The 06 Brigade Commander, Col Abdurahuman Elmi, underscored the importance of unity and collaboration among stakeholders in achieving lasting peace.
