As Hoima City Council ushers in a new leadership, youths remain confused. They will be given less priority in the new leadership.
On May 15, Hoima City ushered in Isingoma Edward – the new mayor. He has immediately brought in changes in the executive committees, dismissing many of the old ones.
The new leadership features Rt Dr Patrick Musingu, male elderly representative as a speaker replacing Isingoma Edward, Mary Ruberatwale, woman elderly representative as deputy council speaker, Nanyombi Florence, deputy mayor, replacing Sylvia Nalumaga.
Other executive members include Bacwa Jackline, secretary for social services, Azoora Kasaija Godfrey, secretary for works and production and Magezi Iddi, secretary for finance, planning and administration management.
According to Isingoma, all the appointees are competent to work and are capable of creating better future development for the growing Hoima City.
Isingoma who served as speaker from 2021/2026, was duly elected on an independent ticket. He defeated Kaboyo Brian who failed to retain his seat.
“All these people, I see the future of development in them,” he said.
He, however, called for togetherness among the leaders in order to foster better community service delivery.
Amanya Twaib, the male youth councillor to the city council, said he will still remain committed to pushing for youth development by bridging communication gaps within government programmes.
“I have been elected and will ensure that I do the best for my fellow youth amidst all changes,” he pledged.
Burungi Justine and Wamani Julius, members of the community, wondered why youth are less considered yet they carry a bigger population.
“Leadership that prioritises one category isn’t fair to the other. We needed our youth to be on board,” they noted.
Iddi Magezi, male councillor representing Hoima East Division, calls for the need to prioritise road network, agricultural and health sector improvements.
