Thousands of residents in Otuke East County, Otuke district, are celebrating the addition of new boreholes, thanks to the efforts of their Member of Parliament Julius Acon Bua.

The MP has ensured that nearly every village in the county now has at least one brand-new borehole, addressing the severe water shortages that have become a major community issue due to climate change.

Two more boreholes were drilled on September 8 and 11, 2026, for residents of Otuke town council and Ogor sub-region.

These two boreholes, which cost approximately shs50 million, bring the total number of boreholes drilled by MP Acon to about 157 in the 11 years, the MP said.

Acon joined Parliament in 2016.

Speaking to the community at Akadebe Cell and Omuko Cell in Oget Ward, Otuke town council, where one of the new boreholes was installed, MP Acon stated that drilling water points is a long-standing commitment he has upheld since before joining Parliament.

He urged the beneficiaries to protect the borehole, emphasising that water is life. “I call upon everyone in Oget Ward who will benefit from this water source to maintain it to high standards as if it were their own personal property, for we do not know what tomorrow holds,” he said.

On Friday, September 11, another new borehole was commissioned in Te-tuku village, Oluro parish, in Ogor sub-region, to help address the same water scarcity challenges still faced by other villages in Otuke East.

MP Acon promised to continue drilling more boreholes. “Before I leave Parliament, I will make sure all my voters are drinking clean water, away from sharing water points with animals, to protect them from waterborne diseases.”

MP Acon pledged to begin upgrading several roads and dilapidated bridges that are not covered under existing government and district road plans.

This clean water initiative is intended to help his constituents more easily access health facilities, churches, markets, and education for the younger generation. The program will cover over 28 parishes.

Acon says since entering Parliament, he has had boreholes including in Amolatar, Alebtong, Kole, and Otuke itself.

Hellen Ogwang Tonny, a resident of Omuko Cell in Akadebe Ward, Otuke town council, thanked MP Acon for always standing with them in times of need.

“This is the kind of leader God has sent to protect us during critical challenges,” she said.

She added that the people of Otuke East should continue to pray for their MP, Julius Acon Bua, so that God continues to protect him and all his promises are fulfilled in due time.

“We have never seen any leader behave like Acon since Otuke District was established,” she declared.

Alex Okullu, a resident of Te-tuku village, outlined a number of things Acon has done for the people of Lango, especially in Otuke district, noting that the community is excited about his kindness to everyone, without discrimination based on political party or religion.

Okullu appreciated Acon for his wonderful work, which he said is helping in the fight against high poverty rates in the local community.
