With just hours to Rukungiri district Woman MP By-election slated for Thursday, President Museveni on Wednesday morning urged the people of Rukungiri district to vote wisely.

Mr. Museveni Tweeted: “The bottom line is that it is best to elect representatives who will work with the government. Choosing MPs whose sole mission is to sabotage government programmes and services will not help. I thank the residents of Rukungiri for turning up in big numbers for the nine rallies we conducted in two days. I urge you to vote for Winfred Masiko. I thank you.”

The seat fell vacant after Court of Appeal ruled that Matsiko’s election had some irregularities, ordering for fresh polls.
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party flag bearer for Thursday poll Betty Bamukwasta Muzaniara is widely expected to win the race, although prolonged presence of former Security Minister, Henry Tumukunde who hails from there also shows Matsiko reclaiming her seat.
According to Kiyimba Umar, the Rukungiri district electoral commission returning officer says 280 polling stations have received polling materials.
The polling exercise is expected to commence at 8am with 177,086 registered voters participating amid heavy presence of police.
