Lira | A day after a man was discovered dead in Okole swamp off Aloi Road in Lira City East Division, his identity remains unknown.
The nameless man, who was probably in his late thirties, was found dead and floating.
This tragic development stunned residents of Railway Quarters B and Akia Ward in the City.
Ronald Oryema, a resident of Te-Obwolo B in Akia Ward, believes the deceased was killed elsewhere and then brought and dumped in the Wii Okole swamp.
“As I was at home, a boda boda rider came, saying a yet-to-be-identified person was seen floating in water,” QFM reported.
“The body had a rope around the neck, hands and legs,” Oryema, who was there at the time police retrieved the body, narrated.
He claimed that the deceased had bruises on his head and blood was oozing from his nose. “Deep cuts were still fresh, indicating that he was killed in the early hours of Monday.”
Obaro Walter of Labour Line in Railway Quarters B expressed concern, saying the development poses a security risk in the area.
“This is not the first incident; a boda boda rider who was hit to death,” he said.
The Monday crime is the second that Obaro and other residents have witnessed in the surrounding wetlands.
Moses Adee, the LC1 chairperson of Railway Quarters B, also believes the deceased was killed and then dumped in his neighborhood.
North Kyoga Region Police have yet to release a statement regarding the crime.
