Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has raised concerns over the reported killing of a former Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) officer in Uganda, suggesting that members of Kayumba Nyamwasa’s Rwanda National Congress (RNC) could have been involved.
In a post on X, Muhoozi said he had received information about the killing but insisted that his office had not been officially informed about the deceased officer.
“I hear there was a former RDF officer who was killed recently in the country. First of all, my office was never notified about the gentleman,” Muhoozi wrote.
He went on to express suspicion that elements linked to the RNC could have been responsible for the incident. However, he did not provide evidence to support the allegation or identify the individuals suspected of involvement.

Muhoozi also raised the possibility that the reported killing could be connected to the arrest of former Ugandan military intelligence chief Maj Gen Abel Kandiho, questioning whether it was an act of retaliation.
“Are they retaliating for Kandiho’s arrest? We shall get to the truth,” he added, indicating that he expects the circumstances surrounding the death to be investigated.
The RNC is associated with former Rwandan army chief Gen Kayumba Nyamwasa, who has been in exile and is a critic of the Rwandan government.
Muhoozi’s remarks have brought renewed attention to allegations of political and security tensions involving groups linked to Rwanda.
His reference to Kandiho also raises questions about the possible connection between the former intelligence chief’s arrest and the reported death.
However, Muhoozi did not explain the circumstances of Kandiho’s arrest or provide details establishing a link between the two incidents.
The circumstances surrounding the former RDF officer’s reported killing, including the victim’s identity, where the incident happened and who was responsible, remain unclear from Muhoozi’s statement.
He said the truth would be established, but no further investigative details were provided in the post.
