Simpleman: Gulu District Councilor Arrested Over Rape Claims

GULU- Justine Obol Simpleman who’s the Laroo Division LCV Councilor to Gulu district Council has been arrested on allegations of rape.

Obol who’s one of the Acholi finest musicians was arrested on Thursday following a complaint of sexual assault by a woman. A complainant owns a restaurant in Gulu town.

The victim told Police that Obol, who is also the Chairperson, Works and Technical Services Committee, assaulted her sexually from a house she could not recognize.

 She said Obol picked her from her work place promising to take her to her home. However, the politician drove the victim to unknown destination and reportedly raped her.

When contacted for a comment yesterday morning, Obol said he was still at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for tests.

Speaking at a low tone voice he said, “Currently I am at Gulu hospital for some tests.”

Gulu District Police commander SP Emmanuel Mafundu says the two have been subjected to medical examinations at Gulu Regional Hospital.

Mufunda further says the case has been reported under CRB: 08/31/05/2018.

“We received the complaint and we have subjected the two to medical examinations at Gulu hospital,” Gulu DPC SP Mafundu added.

Meanwhile, Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police spokesperson told TND News on Friday morning that Obol was under Police custody at Gulu Central Police Station.

“He’s still in custody as we wait for medical results from Gulu hospital,” Okema added.

Obol who was elected to the district Council in 2016 on Democratic Party -DP ticket, has been involved in several advocacy initiatives for gender activism in which he recorded music advocating for women’s rights.
