Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, CDF of the UPDF and President Yoweri Museveni’s son, has announced that he’s standing for president in 2031.
PLU has responded to Office of the National Chairman (ONC) manager Hadijah Namyalo after her Bugisu team publicly endorsed President Yoweri Museveni for continued leadership beyond 2031.
Minister Justine Nameere travelled to the PLU offices in Naguru, where she met leaders and officials of the organisation.
PLU are demanding the return of exiled political activist Fred Lumbuye to Uganda, where the group says he should answer criminal charges against him.
Lazima, a Swahili word for “must have”, is a Cooperative Society formed by patriotic members across the country.
Muhoozi’s position is that PLU intends to build a broad base that includes Ugandans from different backgrounds and regions.
While Kabwegyere has raised concerns about alcohol misuse and leadership responsibility, PLU has defended its chairman and challenged the motives behind the criticism.
PLU to begin nationwide endorsement rallies across Uganda’s 146 districts as part of efforts to mobilise support ahead of the 2031 general elections.
“We further call upon all members of the UPC to conduct party business in strict adherence to the Party Code of Conduct and within the framework of the laws of Uganda,” the party said on Wednesday.
Gen. Muhoozi, who chairs PLU and also serves as Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, has continued to use his public platforms to communicate on issues involving the group and national matters.
Our focus on the common good associated with the emergence of PLU must take precedence over cheap politicking.
