Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has called on the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) to begin nationwide endorsement rallies across Uganda’s 146 districts as part of efforts to mobilise support ahead of the 2031 general elections.

In a message shared on X, Gen Muhoozi said the organisation should use the coming years to strengthen its grassroots structures and ensure supporters across the country are involved in the political process.

“From now until 2031, I want our great PLU to carry out endorsement rallies in the 146 districts of Uganda. We want all our people with us when we stand! We want 90% of the vote,” Gen Muhoozi wrote.

The remarks have been interpreted by his supporters as a clear signal of his intention to seek the presidency in the next election cycle.

Gen Muhoozi, who currently serves as Chief of Defence Forces, has in recent months become increasingly active in national political discussions, attracting strong support from sections of young Ugandans.
