Support for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 2031 presidential bid has continued to gather momentum, with supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in Busoga and Iganga expressing their backing for his political ambitions.

The latest mobilisation in Iganga was presided over by Hon. Sanjay Tanna, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, and Ms. Jacquina Muyonga, during an endorsement activity aimed at rallying local support for Gen. Kainerugaba.

The Iganga gathering forms part of a broader PLU-led national endorsement drive for Gen. Kainerugaba ahead of the 2031 presidential election.

PLU has been conducting endorsement activities and collecting expressions of support from political leaders, community members and other groups across the country.

In recent weeks, similar endorsement activities have been reported in several parts of Uganda, including Ankole, Buganda, Buliisa and Kakumiro.

The Iganga event also highlighted the role of local organisers and PLU supporters in building grassroots structures in Busoga.

Organisers specifically recognised Balondemu Dennis, Ndaye Yakubu and Haj. Ojasi Swaibu for their contribution to the mobilisation exercise.

Addressing supporters, the organisers expressed appreciation for what they described as the strong reception Gen. Kainerugaba’s political message has received in Iganga and the wider Busoga region.

The growing endorsement campaign comes after Gen. Kainerugaba publicly announced his intention to seek Uganda’s presidency in 2031.

International news agency Reuters reported in August that the General, who is also Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, had announced his intention to run.

For PLU supporters in Iganga, the endorsement activity represents an opportunity to demonstrate their political support while strengthening the movement’s presence in the region.

The organisers thanked the people of Busoga, particularly those in Iganga, for their participation and continued support, describing the turnout and enthusiasm as a sign of growing grassroots engagement with Gen. Kainerugaba’s 2031 political agenda.
