5 on the run following the death of Dokolo man, Olido

Dokolo |Five suspects are currently on the run after being suspected of murdering Olido Geoffrey.

Both the deceased and the suspects are from Dokolo district. tndNews understands that police in Dokolo district are actively looking for them.

According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO of North Kyoga Region, the deceased was a resident of Adekinino village, Adekinino parish, Adekinino sub-county, Dokolo.

The incident was reported to the police by Ogwang Julius Peter, 54. SP Okema stated that the deceased’s father, Ogwang, is also a catechist.

Police have identified the suspects as Okello Denis (Palamyek clan’s youth clan leader), Opio Allan, Ojok Aron, Oyee Solomon, and Omara Tonny.

The suspects mentioned above are all members of the same clan.

“It is alleged that on November 10, 2024, Olido Geoffrey, now deceased, stole a sack of sesame from his parents’ home. In response, his parents, Ogwang Julius and Alwedo Betty, decided to report the matter to the youth clan leader, Okello Denis,” SP Okema said.

“He (Okello) subsequently gathered a group of youths to discipline Olido. It is alleged that this group took Olido to an undisclosed location on November 11, 2024, around 6:00 pm, and returned him on November 12, 2024, at approximately 11:00 am, severely beaten.

“Upon his return home, Ogwang Julius took Olido to a nearby clinic, where he was later pronounced dead. Following this, he reported the incident to the Adekinino police post,” PRO Okema added.

Following the incident, the Officer in Charge of the Adekinino Police Post notified the Central Police Station in Dokolo, prompting the dispatch of homicide investigators and Scene of Crime Officers, he explained.

The above teams were led by the District Criminal Investigations Department, which visited the scene.

“A postmortem examination was conducted, and the body was subsequently released to the family for burial.”

The suspects have since fled the village, Okema told tndNews, and efforts to apprehend them are ongoing.

“The police have urged the parents to assist in locating these individuals.”

“This incident is deeply regrettable, and there is criticism leveled at the father for involving youth leaders who lacked the moral authority to address such matters, resulting in the tragic outcome,” the Police PRO stated.
