Lango UPC, FDC MPs Alum, Okot endorse contentious Sovereignty Bill 2026

More than 22 Members of the 11th Parliament at Committees’ level have signed the contentious Sovereignty Bill of 2026.

Two MPs from the Lango sub-region joined their colleagues in endorsing this Bill, which is currently before the floor of Parliament before the 11th Parliament adjourns.

The two “opposition MPs” were members of a joint committee comprising the Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs and the Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

These MPs are Moses Junior Okot Bitek from the FDC, who represents the people of Kyoga County and unfortunately was defeated by a female UPC candidate, Collins Angwech on January 15.

Another was UPC Chief Whip, who also doubles as the Oyam District Woman MP, Santa Alum Ogwang.

Following the endorsement, UPC party President, Jimmy James Michael Akena Obote, together with party members, have decided to take action against their member, Alum.

Some UPC party members told tndNews, Uganda that last year a fake action was taken against Patrick Divine Ochan, MP for Apac Municipality.

They now demand real action against Alum Santa, because this “situation is genuine.”

Other MPs on the committees who endorsed the Bill were the Budaka Woman MP Pamela Nasiyo Kamugo (NRM), Rukiga District Woman MP Caroline Kamusime (NRM), Iganga District Woman MP Sauda Kauma, and Ngora County MP Juliet Achayo Lodou (NRM).

Others are Aeku Patrick (Soroti County MP), Kintu Alex (Bugabula Kagoma North MP), Katuntu Abdul (Bugweri County MP), Komol Emmanuel (Dodoth East County MP in Kabong), Stephen Mugabi (Bukooli North County MP), Wilson Kajwengye (Nyabushozi County MP), and Teira John (Bugabula North County MP), among others.

These MPs are all from the NRM party.
