Kwania district local government has launched the distribution of 520,000 coffee seedlings to be shared among farmers across 11 sub-counties and town councils.
The launch took place at the production office at the district headquarters in Aduku town council and it will cover 8 sub-counties and 3 town councils.
Hundreds of residents of Nambeso sub-county were the first to receive the seedlings.
Beatrice Alela, the Regional Agricultural Officer from the Ministry of Agriculture in charge of Greater Apac, urged supervisors to ensure these seedlings are protected.
She emphasised that farmers must ensure every seedling is planted in their gardens as a valuable asset that shouldn’t be separated from the farm, adding that they will monitor how farmers plant and care for them.
George Johnson Ojok Ocen, the Kwania District Production and Marketing Officer, confirmed that the distribution will happen sub-county by sub-county, starting on April 28 in Nambeso.
Dates for other sub-counties will be provided later, but farmers should coordinate with the agricultural extension officers stationed in each sub-county and town council.
Robert Akwanga Alem, the Deputy CAO of Kwania district, asked farmers receiving these seedlings to take them for planting immediately and not let them go to waste, as happened with some seedlings distributed in 2025.
Supervisors at the launch praised the government for providing these seedlings at the right time during the rainy season.
They predict the coffee will grow well if weather conditions remain favorable.
