The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Amolatar district, Rhoda Oroma, has called for urgent collaboration between the ministries of health and energy to address critical infrastructure challenges affecting healthcare delivery in the district.

She mentioned this during the second day of the regional health assembly 2026 at St. Gracious Palace Hotel in Lira City.

CAO Oroma specifically appealed for the connection of Etam Health Centre III and other vital facilities to the national electricity grid.

She said the lack of reliable power is undermining the delivery of essential health services, saying it requires immediate government intervention.

The district’s healthcare system is also facing a severe shortage of personnel, she said. According to Oroma, only 22.6 per cent of the workforce is currently in place.

As a result, Etam Health Centre IV is operating with just one midwife, following the absence of the second midwife who is currently on leave.

Meanwhile, the Lira Regional Blood Bank Laboratory Manager, Otanga Jaspher, outlined logistical and equipment challenges affecting blood access and storage across the region.

He said Amolatar’s main challenge is its long distance from Lira, where the regional blood bank is located.

Otanga added that Alebtong and Aduku Health Centre IVs are using unsuitable refrigeration systems, while Apac and Aboke Health Centre IVs lack digital water baths.

He further noted that the Lira University facility is experiencing staff shortages and delays in personnel reporting for duty.

Despite these challenges, Hellen Grace Anyoda, Senior Blood Donor Recruitment Officer at Lira Regional Blood Bank, praised Amolatar district for its outstanding contribution to blood donation.

She officially recognised Amolatar as the leading blood-donating district in the Lango sub-region.

Describing the district as a “lifesaver for Lango”, Anyoda attributed the achievement to local leaders who have actively mobilised residents to donate blood.

She urged other districts to emulate Amolatar’s commitment to supporting lifesaving healthcare services.
