UPC politician who turned to fishing arrested on Lake Kyoga

A former LC5 candidate for Amolatar district, Okello Dicken, aka “Good Year”, was apprehended by the military on Lake Kyoga.

Okello is affiliated with the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party.

His arrest took place on Wednesday, at Kiryanga landing site. Reports indicate that Okello was detained for allegedly using illegal fishing equipment.

The UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit conducted an enforcement operation during which Okello and his associate, Ogwok, were taken into custody.

Olimo Ojwiny Richard, the local LC1 chairperson of Konya in Acii sub-county, confirmed the arrest. He noted that it was Okello’s first visit to the area for fishing.

According to the local authority, the duo was moved to an undisclosed location, and their current whereabouts remain unknown.

Local leaders say they have not yet contacted anyone from their homes.

Efforts to obtain a statement from the UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
