Amolatar | Police in Amolatar district have arrested the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) district party chairperson, Olwit Kamilo, over the alleged mismanagement of party electoral funds.
Kamilo was picked by police on Tuesday from Inomo Cell, Inomo Ward in Amolatar town council following widespread complaints from party members.
According to North Kyoga Regional Police PRO, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the chairperson is accused of changing party flag bearers.
SP Okema also says Kamilo allegedly distributed fifty thousand shillings (shs50,000) only to each of the LCI flag bearers and women councillors for the party primaries, instead of the authorised one hundred thousand shillings (shs100,000).
The funds in question were dispatched by the NRM secretariat to all sixteen sub-counties in the district.
Police have opened a General Enquiry File, GEF number 038/2026, to investigate the matter.
SP Okema says preliminary investigations show that the party distributed these funds nationwide alongside clear guidelines on how they should be spent.
The suspect is currently detained at Amolatar Central Police Station.
Detectives have already recorded statements from several affected party members who received less money, while others are still being lined up to give evidence, the PRO added.
Police state that the case file will be submitted to the Resident State Attorney for legal guidance once investigations are complete.
SP Okema has strongly warned leaders at all levels to respect regulations and act with integrity while executing their public duties.
