Police in Kwania district say they are investigating a case of suspected murder by mob action, which occurred on June 3, 2026, at 1pm.
The crime happened at Alikingel trading centre, Aluka parish, Inomo sub-county, Kwania.
The deceased has been identified as Ebong Moses, approximately 50 years old. He was a businessman and resident of Barkwac village, Aluka parish, Inomo.
He was murdered together with Ekonga Derrick, an approximately 33-year-old peasant farmer and resident of Ongica village, Chegere sub-county in Apac district.
It’s alleged that on June 3, 2026, at around 9am to 1pm at Barkwac village, Ebong Moses and Ekonga Derrick were arrested by a group of hungry mob on suspicion that they stole 3 goats.
The goats were owned by Otim Jimmy. The owner of chickens, a bicycle and half a sack of rice’s owner are yet to be identified, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO of North Kyoga region, said.
The deceased were dragged by a mob, assaulted up to Barkwac trading centre, where Ekonga Derrick died, SP Okema added.
“…Ebong Moses died while being rushed to Aduku Health Centre IV for treatment.”
A case file of murder by mob action was registered, and subsequently, investigations started to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Deceased bodies, SP Okema revealed, were picked up and conveyed to Aduku Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem examination.
He said preliminary reports show that Ebong Moses has been a habitual cattle thief who has been in and out of government prison on allegations of theft.
No arrest has been made yet, the PRO stated. “However, plans are underway through the LCI of the area to get the people involved in the murder.”
SP Okema said, “This is really very unfortunate, and as we appeal to the community members to desist from acts of mob action, the suspected criminals must know that the public is equally tired of their continued criminal activities.”
