Dokolo | A food dispute at a funeral in Dokolo district turned violent on Wednesday, leaving one person critically injured.
Several others were injured, while some starters of the food chaos went into hiding.
The chaos erupted in Alolango village, Alela parish, Kangai town council, where Christine Acakarit was being buried.
Ruckus started after a group of youths finished laying the coffin in the grave. Hungry as they were, they went to get food only to discover that the main mourners had consumed all the meals, including the meat.
A fierce ruckus broke out between these youths and the deceased’s clan members, who were in charge of catering.
The youth, who travelled from Kobulubulu and Dokolo but belong to the Okarowok clan, reportedly picked up a large log and hit Aduni, the son of Moses Ocen. Aduni belongs to the Otengora clan.
The assault triggered a massive brawl between the Otengora and Okarowok clans. Several people were assaulted, including Pastor Charles Ebwalu of Berehan, a resident of Kobulubulu.
Pastor Ebwalu was knocked down and landed on a nearby house wall. Other mourners were chased into the surrounding bushes.
Aduni sustained injuries and was rushed to Kangai Health Centre III in a serious condition.
Local authorities started investigating the matter on Wednesday to restore peace between the two clans.
