The police in Oyam district on March 19 conducted a serious joint operation at Kamdini town council in Oyam, South.
This follows numerous security concerns raised by community members regarding ongoing criminal activities in the area, according to the North Kyoga Regional Police PRO, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema.
SP Okema added that the operation targeted suspected criminal gangs, including a group commonly known as K29, which has been linked to a series of crimes in the area.
K29 is linked to murder and other violent offenses. Within a period of one week, more than four cases of murder were registered with the police.
The operation was commanded by the District Police Commander (DPC) Oyam, SP Okongo Francis, and deputised by the Officer in Charge (OC) Station Kamdini.
During the operation, Okot Gerald, Etot Stephen, Okello Denis, Otoo Bashir, Opio Lawrence, Ibaru Benson, Kawunda Richard, Okori Jolly, Omara Denis, Adupa George, Ebil Mark, Okiba Lawrence, Okello Bashir, Ejang Sarah, Abang Milly, Ayiko Annah, Akullu Janet, Ocen Steven, and Olam Emmanuel were arrested, according to SP Okema.
He added that all the suspects were detained at Kamdini Police Station, pending screening and further investigations.
Upon completion of the screening process, they are expected to be charged accordingly, including for offenses related to the possession of narcotic drugs such as opium, where applicable.
The Uganda Police Force, SP Okema said, will continue to conduct such intelligence-led disruptive operations as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety in the region.
