The last known movements of legendary Afrigo Band leader Moses Matovu have come under renewed scrutiny as police and military detectives reconstructed the events surrounding his death in Kibuli, Kampala.

The reconstruction exercise was carried out on Saturday under heavy security deployment, with joint teams from the Uganda Police Force and UPDF closing several roads around Kibuli as detectives retraced Matovu’s final movements alongside the two suspects, Vincent Nsamba and Rose Tumusiime.

The exercise began at Rujumbura Bar, where Matovu and Tumusiime are reported to have spent time on the night of the incident. Detectives then moved with the suspects to Tumusiime’s rented residence in Market Zone B before proceeding to the area near Matovu’s Land Rover, registration number UAR 982H, where the fatal confrontation allegedly occurred.

At the alleged crime scene, Tumusiime, 26, reportedly demonstrated to investigators how the confrontation began and how Matovu allegedly fell onto the pavement after being struck. Detectives documented the reconstruction through written statements and video recordings as they sought to compare the accounts with evidence collected from the scene.

The second suspect, Vincent Nsamba, 41, also known as Arnold, was also taken through the reconstruction. Investigators reportedly focused on establishing his movements that night, whether he was present at the location and what role, if any, he played in the confrontation.A police officer explained that crime-scene reconstruction helps investigators test suspects’ accounts against physical evidence.

According to the officer, detectives can examine distances, movements and locations to determine whether the different statements are consistent with what investigators found at the scene.Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Kawala said similar reconstruction exercises had also been conducted in Nansana as investigators continued gathering evidence.

He said suspects were being taken back to locations connected to the case so that their accounts could be compared with evidence already collected.The reconstruction in Kibuli was reportedly led by senior detectives, including Kampala Metropolitan Police CID Commander Milton Birungi Beigumamu and CID Kampala South Regional Commander Arthur Twiinamatsiko.

The exercise lasted more than two hours before the suspects were returned to Natete Police Station, where they remained in custody as investigations continued.Meanwhile, Kibuli residents and local leaders, including LC1 Chairperson for Kibuli Market Zone B Abdul Nasser Mukasa, said Nsamba was known to Matovu.
