Alyela Denis Omodi, the former Kampala Central Division town clerk will succeed UPC party president Jimmy Akena as Member of Parliament for Lira City East Division.
Omodi was elected on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
The Lira City Returning Officer, James Aggrey Ipeto, announced the results on Friday, January 16, 2026, confirming Omodi as the MP-elect for the 2026–2031 parliamentary term.

Among his stated priorities for the constituency which encompasses areas such as the former sub-counties/divisions, Negta, Adekokwok, the former Central Division, and Railway quarters are:
• Household level economic transformation
• Enhanced access to clean and safe water
• Targeted youth empowerment initiatives
• People centered development across the division
Pledge for accountability and progress

The narrow margin underscores the competitive nature of the race, which followed the withdrawal of an independent candidate earlier in the campaign period.
