The Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua said it’s much easier for leaders in the ruling party to lobby for development from the government, citing shs1b for road projects across the country.
Districts, municipalities and cities are entitled to shs1b for road works every financial year, and Obua, who is also the MP of Ajuri County in Alebtong district, said the allocation is from the effort of the NRM MPs through their caucus.
He told his constituents that the NRM caucus has asked the president to add more funds, something Obua said President Museveni has agreed to.
“I am telling you, Alebtong district used to get not more than shs300m for road works in each financial year, something which wasn’t enough to do our roads both in Ajuri and Moroto. But in that meeting, where I am the chairperson, we raised this issue and the president agreed to it.
“Therefore, I urge you to vote for NRM and president Museveni come 2026. Let us vote for leaders who are doing good for our well being,” Obua asked.
Dorcas Acen Alebtong district woman MP and the chairperson of the district road committee, said all roads earlier earmarked have been worked on in this financial year.
Acen said the fund was “properly utilised.” She said it was possible due to team work from both the technical and political wings, something she wishes must continue.
“It’s our wish that our roads should be motorable with ease and that’s our target. Next financial year is just around. With another money for our roads, we shall deliver as expected; more roads will be worked on.”
The woman MP said the roads will allow people access hospitals, schools and markets in time. “All these are possible with good roads.”
Emmanuel Obua, the district engineer, pleaded with the community to allow offshoots to be open in their gardens. He said most of the roads in the district don’t last long because people are not allowing offshoots in their garden leaving the roads flooded.
He said the 12 kilometres of road stretching from Iceda via Ikem to Amugu Quran will cost shs42.7m with major work being bush clearing, full grading, offshoots opening and putting murrum.
