Kole North

Celebrations erupted in Kole North as area Member of Parliament Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti won the NRM primaries with a landslide score. Official results indicate he obtained 94% of the votes.

Dr. Acuti obtained 21,254 votes. His opponent, Patrick Awongo Ogwal, garnered 1,256 votes, just 2%.

The official results released by Kole district NRM registrar Joseph Ogwal Oyuku confirmed Dr. Opio’s overwhelming win and declared him official flag bearer for 2026.

Registrar Oyuku declared the election “free and fair” and thanked all participants. He noted that some voters did not turn out.

Dr. Opio, who switched to the NRM two months ago alongside Otuke County MP Paul Omara after serving as an independent since 2021, addressed supporters on Friday, July 18, 2025.

As the newly elected NRM flagbearer for Kole North, he extended an olive branch to his rivals. “The election was free and fair. I call upon my opponents—and all successful NRM primary candidates—to unite ahead of the general elections.”

He emphasized that joining the ruling party would amplify his efforts to serve constituents through government initiatives, citing youth empowerment, road construction, and healthcare development as key priorities.

Since his election in 2021, Dr. Opio has gained recognition for his anti-corruption advocacy and ensuring government funds reach intended projects in Kole North.

Across Lango, he is applauded among the few “best performers”.
