The new member of the ruling NRM party has revealed how much the government has invested in the Lango sub-region since 2021.
Kole North MP Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti, who officially joined the NRM on Monday, stated that the Lango sub-region is home to several significant infrastructure projects funded by the NRM government.
He quotes shs1.577 trillion as the current total investment since 2021.
Dr. Opio Acuti attributed the recent surge in development and investment to strategic collaboration between Lango MPs and the NRM government, as well as effective lobbying through the Lango Parliamentary Group.
Dr. Opio, who also serves as LPG’s General Secretary, emphasized the importance of consistent budget allocation for northern Uganda.
He stated that the Akii Bua Olympic Stadium is the most “substantial project,” with an estimated cost of shs477 billion (approximately $129 million).
Following that is the construction of the 100.1-kilometer Apac-Lira road, which has a budget of shs416 billion. The 90.1 km Rwenkunye-Apac road comes next, with a cost of shs337 billion.

Additionally, the rehabilitation of the 189 km Soroti-Dokolo-Lira-Kamdini road is underway, with an investment of shs331 billion, he added.
Speaking to Kole district NRM leaders on Monday, MP Opio identified other notable projects like Kole-Gulu-Nebbi electricity transmission line, valued at $100 million (370 billion), part of which is located in Lango, and the recently commissioned satellite laboratory at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
The rehabilitation of the 375 km Tororo-Kumi-Soroti-Lira-Kole-Gulu railway line is also in progress, with a budget of shs199 billion, and work has been completed up to Kumi.

“If we include these additional projects, the anticipated investments will surpass shs1.6 trillion,” said MP Opio Acuti.
“Much of this progress is due to the strong collaboration between the Lango Parliamentary Group and the NRM government.”
“This figure is expected to increase later this year with the commencement of the Corner Ayer-Corner Aboke-Iceme-Bobi AFCON road and the Masindi port bridge,” the MP added.
The projects are expected to create 15,000+ temporary jobs during construction, boost agricultural trade through improved transport, and enhance tourism potential with sports infrastructure.
There will be a reduced power outage by 60% in the region, he said.
