Kisoro | Political parties competing in the Kisoro district woman MP by-election have stepped up their campaigns with key messages and appeals to voters.
The UPC, NRM, and NUP are among the parties that think they can win the parliamentary seat that was left empty after Sarah Mateke passed away.
Mateke was also Minister of State for Defence, in charge of Veteran Affairs, when she died in September.
On Saturday, while campaigning for UPC candidate Ingabire Mable, party president Jimmy Akena explained to the people of Kisoro why they are poor.
“Your poor living conditions are a testament that NRM has neglected you, and the legacy of UPC for people’s wellbeing is self-explanatory.”
Akena was in Kibugu Trading Centre, Bufumbira South, with local and national party leaders.
“We have the right vision for the people of Uganda,” Akena said as he campaigned for Mable at Mataba, Kidandali Trading Centre.

While at Ruhengeri Trading Centre in Murumba subcounty, he introduced Mable to potential voters, describing her as “a woman of substance.”
Akena on Saturday paid a visit to late Mateke’s father and thanked him for his contribution to Uganda. The Lira City East MP, Akena, stated that this bylection is occasioned by the loss of Dr. Mateke’s daughter.
“It’s a sad moment for him,” he told the press.
“What I have seen on the ground is something which is not a good sign for the politics. We here the situation has reached, we are seeing the desperation of the citizens, where any small token will make people to go out.”
The UPC leader said he’s hurt with what Kisoro is going through. “I am actually hurt that this is the sort of politics which is happening in Uganda today when actually we should be sharing how we can improve people’s lives.”
Muzeyi Faizo, head of media and communications at the UPC, told tndNews that they are gaining support every day and are optimistic about their chances of victory.
Kisoro will vote for their new woman MP on November 14, as scheduled by the electoral commission.
