Soroti—23, November 2021: The Vice Chairperson Teso Parliamentary Group (TPG) has asked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to pay for the overwhelming votes Teso gave him in the January polls.
The TPG importantly wants Museveni to fix the gaps in the struggling education system in the region.
Joan Alobo Achom who doubles as the Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament worries that the illiteracy levels are most likely to rise if the poor education services are not mitigated.
Speaking during fund-raising event for Agora community seed secondary school in Soroti City West Division, the FDC iron lady reiterated that Teso, amidst her party Presidential candidate, voted for President Museveni but the services the region gets in return is not worthy of the votes.
The blue lady decried poor education, health and infrastructure development even after voting for the President that promised better service delivery for the citizens.
The statement left several NRM leaders that attended the fundraising event murmuring following the looming poverty and education services in Teso.

Dr. Kenneth Ongalo Obote was the chief guest, and other NRM bigwigs accompanied him. The chief guest and others in government were left ‘perturbed’. They have to report to the President Museveni about the matter in question.
The angry Alobo claimed that the government’s failure to implement its policies has made the legislators assume responsibilities that government does.
“We wouldn’t be here as Members of Parliament contributing as if the government that the people voted for is not there. Honorable Ministers and MPs in the ruling party tell President Museveni that it’s time to compensate for the votes Teso gave him by giving us a special package for education services,” Alobo told the yellow side.
She said the aspect of learners still trekking for long distances trying to access affordable education services yet approved government policies are not implemented is ‘uncalled’ for.
On teenage pregnancies, she said it is increasing due to lack and distant education services that puts learners at risk as predators take advantage.
Stella Isodo is the Woman Member of Parliament Ngora district and the spokesperson of TPG. She said the sitting government seems to have become ‘deaf’ even when they (opposition) try to talk no serious action is taken.
Isodo acknowledged it is not the role of the MP to construct schools but when the entitled body fails they can’t sit back and watch people ‘wallowing in poverty and ignorance’ that will destroy the future generations.
“We have talked in Parliament and outside Parliament in different forums but these fellows don’t listen so we rather do something for our people as we continue to perform our mandatory roles,” she added.
Dr. Abraham Isamat is the MP Kapir County. “The poor education services can’t allow them to stay within the same community crying with folded hands instead of doing something.”
“The unity we exhibited as leaders portray that the magnitude of the problems across the country is immense,” Isamat said at the event.
Dr. Kenneth Ongalo Obote, MP Kalaki County and Minister Teso Affairs asked leaders to come together, put politics aside and work for development.
