Somalia: UPDF holds activities to commemorate the 43rd tarehe sita

UPDF personnel in Mogadishu, Somalia offered free medical services to hundreds of Somalis who turned up at the Marine Gate’s medical camp. 

The event was organised by UPDF serving under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) in all their forward operating bases in commemoration of the 43rd Tarehe Sita anniversary.

According to Capt Dr James Ojok, the Level Two Commanding Officer, most of the diagnosed ailments are due to poor hygiene leading to skin infections, eye defects, dental issues, and urinary tract infections (UTIs).

In Ceeljale town, 86 km Southwest of Mogadishu City, communities living near the forward operating base joined troops of Uganda Battle Group Fourty (BG XL) to participate in a cleaning exercise in the town.

Led by Col Topher Magino, the BG XL Commander, the troops cleaned Elmuye Primary School, offered free medical services, and donated food items to pupils.

Col Magino thanked the people of Ceeljale for the cordial cooperation portrayed to ATMIS forces and the Somali National Army in the fight against Al Shabaab militants.

“Today’s engagement and activities are to improve and strengthen that cooperation. All we have achieved here is because of you.

“We managed to liberate several areas that were under Al Shabaab and protected the majority of the population centres with your support,” said Col Magino

These activities are conducted in the communities to appreciate Somalis’ support of ATMIS’ cause for peace and stability in Somalia for the last 16 years.
