You will never be political orphans – Deputy Speaker Among to Busoga

“We shall be there to support them to transform the lives of our people,” she says.

Mbale – 24, December 2021: The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has promised the people of Busoga support.

To make this possible, she has asked all the leaders from Busoga to focus on uniting the people and pushing for the development agenda.

“We shall be there to support them to transform the lives of our people,” she says.

She made the political promise during the groundbreaking for the construction of a maternity ward at Bugaya Health Centre IV.

“The well being of our mothers is dear to us and we shall do whatever it takes to improve the services that our health facilities can offer.”

About Busoga University, Among says the question will be resolved, asking the area MP to bring a motion so that government can take it over.

“I want to assure the people of Busoga that you will never be political orphans. When one door closes, another one opens, that open door is the one that brought Anita.”

According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Report of 2019/2020 released in June 2021, Busoga sub-region contributes 14 percent of the poor people in the country.

The UBOS’ Principal Statistician and Head of Analysis, Vincent Senono Fred, among other reasons, attributed the high level of poverty in Busoga to “poor population planning”.

“Most of them are sugarcane farmers and when they lease their land for two years in exchange for money, they will be well off after receiving the money and poverty begins to bite as time goes on.”
