UPC mourns party mobiliser and sportsman Wilkinson Okae

The death of Lango’s son, an ardent sportsman Wilikison Okae last week has left many still in shock.

Okae died on December 16 during a motocross competition at Akii Bua memorial stadium, Lira City East.

He’s being commended for his love for sports. Others will remember him as a man with “an ever-smiling face” and “a friend of many”.

Okae’s fellow sportsman who is the Lira City East MP, Jimmy Akena spoke of him during his end-of-year message on Wednesday. 

“Throughout the year, several party members have been bedridden with various ailments, some have made recoveries, and others have regrettably succumbed to death!”

He added that “as the country was laying Supreme Court Justice Opio Aweri’s body to its final resting place, a party mobiliser and an ardent sportsman Thomas Wilkinson Okae died during a motocross competition at Akii Bua Stadium in Lira on Friday 16th December 2022”.

“Earlier on, the former party national treasurer (1980 – 2005) and minister for rehabilitation in the UPC II government of 1980 – 85 Hon. Patrick Masette Kuuya occurred on the 22nd of November 2022 in Nairobi, Kenya, and the party collaborated with the family to give him (Masette) a befitting final send-off.”

Wilkinson Okae will be buried on Thursday, December 22, 2022. “On behalf of the party and my behalf, I convey our heartfelt condolences and sympathize with all the respective families affected. I also wish a quick recovery to those who are still sick.”

In the same spirit, Akena said the party condoles with the family of Hon. Patrick Okabe the Member of Parliament for Serere County died in a road accident with his wife on Monday morning.

Okabe and his wife Christine Okabe died on December 19 after the MP’s car was knocked over by an Isuzu truck.

Also, Akena, during the same media event extended the party’s condolences to the family of Mr. Moses Olemukan, the LC V Chairperson for Bukedea District who succumbed to cancer at Mulago Cancer Institute on Saturday, December 17, 2022.
