Amolatar – August 1, 2022: Some politicians in Amolatar district are becoming politically hostile to each other with the latest update being a threat to life.
The 2021 post-general elections have evolved in the district with a stiff enmity between the Forum for Democratic Change [FDC MP of Kyoga County] also Vice Chairperson of Lango Parliamentary Group [LPG] Okot Junior Bitek and his archrival Felix Adupa Ongwech.
Ongwech is the president of the Transformer Cadres Association [TCA], a coalition of politicians under the NRM party who lost in the 2021 party primary and general elections.
The pair have had threatening exchanges in recent years – and the latest and most prominent was when some three residents of Amolatar stormed Hot FM radio studios and caused malicious damage.
A senior staff of the radio would later tell TND News that “popular politicians in the districts were behind the radio raid”.
The said radio station is owned by Agnes Atim Apea, the Amolatar district Woman MP who has “good working relations with Okot,” according to some people.
After the raid, the territorial Police would later take up the matter and arrest three suspects.

It’s worth noting that both Adupa and Okot took part to see “justice” prevail for both radio and staff that were allegedly beaten by the suspects and to see the immediate release of the suspects.
The archrivals stood as defense counsel and surety for the “clients and friends,” respectively.
Important to note is that both politicians accuse each other of promoting bad politics in Amolatar – with ‘both still looking forward to the 2026 elections’.
In the audio that has gone viral, Adupa alleges that MP Okot has been “criticizing, demeaning us…”
“You hear these talks are continuing is because Okot and Odur sat down and came up with demeaning talks…I have spoken today for the final time. If Okot continues with my names, even if it is at a burial, if we are together at the same burial, that burial will not end well..”
“Okot has declared war on me and Angole. We now want to fight, the issue of votes: if you want to give your votes, give it to anywhere you want – leave us out of it in 2026; leave us to stay and see if we die. But Okot must pay for us, he should respect people. We are all leaders at different levels, Okot must respect people.”
“We have removed our respect on Okot as the MP. We have removed it and Okot will remain naked without our respect.”
“But, whoever sees him, tell him anywhere we meet if my car is in front or his, all of us will have a head-on collision and die…” Adupa vowed.
“Hey, FAO, this sounds terrible?” TND News asked Adupa on Monday. “He [Okot] is a fool,” he replied.
Asked about his actions on Adupa’s threats, Okot, also an advocate of the High Court said: “Am going to report to Police.”
