Amolatar – July 6, 2022: Amolatar Central Police Station continues to keep a man they arrested after suspects he stood for as their surety failed to return to the police.

Felix Adupa Ongwech was arrested on Monday, according to the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Jimmy Patrick Okema.

In an interview with Daniel Moi, a journalist with Unity FM in Lira City, Okema said Adupa was arrested in alliance with his standing surety for the three suspects who forcefully gained access to Hot Fm, beating people and destroying some property.

“They were charged for illegal entry, assault, and malicious damage. So, Adupa stood surety for them but since then they have failed to report back to the police. So the law accepts that if you stand surety for someone if you fail to produce, you carry all the liability,” Okema said on Monday.

According to Okema, Adupa’s arrest is a warning to any other person outside there; where you are going to stand surety either in police or even before the court.

“Just know that you should stand for someone you are sure will return to continue with his issues …”

After TND News run an article titled: “Arrest of transformer cadres’ president linked to Hot FM ruffian attacks – Police” – Adupa, using his Twitter handle @FelixOngwech flagged it “Fake News”.

Adupa’s ‘Fake News’ reply.

He later wrote: “My attention has been drawn to this fake news making rounds on social media please disregard the article because it’s a fake news I am very ok @TransformersUg.”

This publication has since Tuesday been inquiring whether Adupa was not in police custody as a Police spokesperson had earlier said, or if, after his arrest, a police bond was granted.

However, our findings indicate that Adupa was until Wednesday morning still with the police – inside their cell but with a privilege. He can make calls and receive them. He can Tweet and Facebook, among other privileges.

“He has been given access to his mobile phone [smart phone] and can freely access social media,” a source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Tuesday evening.

In an interview on Tuesday, Okema said Adupa’s file was almost ready, adding that he would be taken to court “as soon as his file is ready”.

On Wednesday morning, Adupa was granted a police bond – at 9 am. His case has been registered under SD Ref. 32/01/07/22 at Amolatar Central Police Station.
