Lira – July 5, 2022: Police on Monday arrested Felix Adupa Ongwech over last week’s ruffian attacks on Hot FM staff and radio studio.

In an exclusive interview with Daniel Moi, a journalist with Unity FM in Lira City, the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson ASP Jimmy Patrick Okema said Adupa was arrested yesterday [Monday].

Okema revealed that Adupa’s arrest was aligned with his standing surety of the other three suspects who forcefully gained access to Hot Fm, beating people and destroying some property.

“They were charged for illegal entry, assault, and malicious damage. So, Adupa stood surety for them but since then they have failed to report back to the police. So the law accepts that if you stand surety for someone, if you fail to produce, you carry all the liability,” Okema added.

According to Okema, this is the warning to any other person outside there; where you are going to stand surety either in police or even before the court. “Just know that you should stand for someone you are sure of ,will return to continue with his issues …”

“If you do that unknowingly, then you carry the liabilities,” Okema told Moi.

Adupa is the president of NRM politicians who lost the 2021 elections and they are pushing for a constitutional amendment to allow only the Parliament to elect the president.

Their move has since been widely criticized by the majority of Ugandans, including those in the ruling government.
