Kitgum District Water Officer Picho Willy said the district continues to work toward universal access to clean and safe water.
According to district statistics, Kitgum has an estimated 81 to 83 percent safe water coverage overall, with roughly 89 percent access in rural areas.
The initiative marks a critical step toward ensuring that WASH investments under the SHARE project continue delivering lasting health benefits for communities across Africa.
The only borehole drilled by the Lamwo District Local Government broke down 10 years ago due to low water levels.
According to Peter Opio, Program Officer at Link to Progress, the project has injected over shs1.5 billion into a comprehensive package of interventions addressing both infrastructural and social barriers to education.
Anne Nkutu, District Governor for Rotary District 9214, was the guest of honor at the commissioning. She highlighted the importance of long-term, sustainable interventions in rural education and hygiene.
Florence Onono, chairperson borehole maintenance, said: “We need more water points for our growing population.”
Ronald Akol, Adel Ward’s male LC3 councillor, stated that the construction of a public toilet at Awee Betty Market is already budgeted for this fiscal year.
Magumba’s campaign has already gained traction among policymakers and environmental advocates.
At least seven boreholes have been repaired in seven months by Northern Uganda MP Boniface Okot.
MP Obong Eyit promised that new boreholes would be drilled in areas where water shortages persisted.
