Lira | Residents and constituents in Lira City West Division are pleased that boreholes in their area have been rehabilitated.
Their MP, Obong Eyit, has prioritised water availability and access as he seeks another mandate in 2026.
Some residents of Anyulo Cell in Bar Apowa Ward, Lira City West Division, thanked Eyit for fixing the water points.
The development comes after nearly a year of dealing with water scarcity.
MP Eyit reassured Anyulo Cell residents that he is committed to improving service delivery and thus the community’s quality of life.
The UPC MP expressed sympathy for the community’s difficulties as a result of water scarcity and promised to repair all non-functional boreholes in the Division.
He promised that new boreholes would be drilled in areas where water shortages persisted.
A local resident, Semmy Adongo, thanked MP Obong for protecting the community from waterborne diseases. Adongo claimed that they have been sharing water sources with animals.
She urged other leaders to adopt MP Obong’s proactive approach.
“As a community, we expect our elected officials to provide effective service. I am disappointed by our leaders’ disregard for their constituents’ needs,” Hellen Okullu John, a local resident, said.
With the 2026 elections approaching, she stated, “As voters, we will support leaders who have stood by us through difficult times.”

Another resident, James Opio Okello, stated that the new water points will benefit young children, particularly girls, by reducing risks associated with a variety of circumstances.
Traveling long distances to water sources have caused significant misunderstanding within households, especially between husbands and wives.
Girls too, are still subjected to harsh treatment by their parents after spending more than three hours looking for water.
