Former presidential candidate and National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) leader Joseph Kabuleta has predicted that President Yoweri Museveni and his son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, could be out of power by January 2027, bringing forward his earlier prediction of June 2027.
Speaking on The Morning After, a podcast hosted by journalist Edris Kiggundu, Kabuleta urged Ugandans to stop focusing on the 2031 presidential elections, insisting that the country’s political situation could change much earlier.
“I said that by June 2027, the Museveni dynasty will be gone, but now I wish to revise a bit. By January 2027,” Kabuleta reportedly said. The NEED leader did not explain what specific events could trigger the political changes he anticipates or provide evidence to support his prediction.

His remarks, however, have reignited debate about Uganda’s political future and the possibility of a leadership transition.Museveni has governed Uganda since 1986, while Muhoozi serves as Chief of Defence Forces. Kabuleta’s prediction remains speculative, with no confirmed indication that the government will change by January 2027.
