Drama unfolded at Bududa Senior Secondary School after students reportedly intervened to stop the arrest of their head teacher by anti-corruption officials.
The incident happened on Thursday, September 17, 2026, after officials moved to arrest the school head teacher, Nasibu Mutyaba, over allegations of illegal charging of school fees.
According to reports, the arrest followed directives from Minister of State for Local Government Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, who accused the school of collecting fees despite being a government-aided institution.
The minister questioned why students at a government-supported school were being charged fees when the government’s free education programme was intended to support learners from vulnerable families.

Reports indicate that each student at Bududa Senior Secondary School pays Sh150,000 in school fees.
When anti-corruption officials arrived at the school to arrest Mutyaba, students reportedly gathered around them demanding explanations.
The students allegedly surrounded the officials and questioned where they were taking their head teacher.
The situation reportedly escalated as the students pulled Mutyaba away from the officials who had arrested him.
