“I will hold a rally in Gulu soon. If the North has forgotten ‘Ladit’, i will remind them” – Gen Muhoozi says after announcing presidential bid

Uganda

Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced plans to hold a rally in Gulu, saying he wants to remind people in Northern Uganda about his connection and history with the region.

Gen Muhoozi made the remarks shortly after declaring his intention to seek Uganda’s presidency, attracting attention from political observers and supporters.

“I will hold a rally in Gulu soon. If the North has forgotten ‘Ladit’, I will remind them,” Gen Muhoozi said.

The term “Ladit” is a Luo word meaning a respected elder, leader or important person, and has previously been used by Gen Muhoozi’s supporters in reference to him.

His statement has sparked discussion about his political strategy and his efforts to build support beyond his traditional political base.

Gulu, located in Northern Uganda, has historically played an important role in the country’s political landscape.

Gen Muhoozi’s planned rally is expected to focus on strengthening his relationship with communities in the region and presenting his political message to voters.

The announcement comes after he publicly declared his presidential ambitions, setting the stage for increased political activity ahead of the next general elections.

His supporters have described his political movement as a new generation approach aimed at addressing Uganda’s future challenges.

However, critics have questioned his entry into politics, especially given his current role as Chief of Defence Forces.

Gen Muhoozi has continued to attract public attention through his frequent statements on political, security and national issues.

His comments about Gulu suggest that he intends to engage directly with communities across the country.

Northern Uganda has experienced significant political and security changes over the years, including the impact of the Lord’s Resistance Army insurgency and later efforts towards recovery and development.

Gen Muhoozi has previously spoken about his relationship with different parts of Uganda and his desire to connect with citizens.

The planned Gulu rally is likely to be closely watched because of the region’s political importance and history.

Political analysts are expected to examine how Gen Muhoozi’s message is received by voters in the North.

The announcement also comes at a time when political activity is increasing, with different leaders preparing for future campaigns.

Gen Muhoozi’s supporters believe his background in the military and government gives him experience that could appeal to some Ugandans.

Opponents, however, are likely to raise questions about leadership, democratic processes and the role of security officials in politics.

The planned rally will provide an opportunity for Gen Muhoozi to outline his vision and explain his political agenda to a wider audience.

For now, attention remains focused on when the Gulu rally will take place and the message Gen Muhoozi will deliver to residents of Northern Uganda.

His statement has already generated debate, with supporters and critics closely following his next political moves.
