Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced that he has added his father President Yoweri Museveni’s name to his own, saying he will now be known as Muhoozi Kainerugaba Museveni.

Muhoozi made the announcement on social media, saying the new name would be abbreviated as MKM.

“From now on my name is Muhoozi Kainerugaba Museveni. MKM,” he wrote on X.

The announcement comes as mobilisation activities around Muhoozi’s declared intention to contest for Uganda’s presidency in 2031 continue through the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), which he chairs.

PLU describes itself as a civic organisation operating within the broader framework of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), and has been organising activities to gather support for Muhoozi’s political ambitions.

After announcing the new name, Gen. Muhoozi said he plans to move across the country to engage with Ugandans, promising what he described as a political wave and a message of renewal.

His decision to adopt the Museveni name has attracted reactions from supporters, with some leaders adding additional praise names to his new identity.

State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara said supporters from Bunyoro and Tooro would add the pet name “Amooti” to MKM, while PLU supporter Daudi Kabanda referred to him as “General MKM Inkotanye.”

Gen. Muhoozi first publicly announced his intention to seek Uganda’s highest office in 2031 on August 25, saying he expected to have his father’s support.

Since the announcement, PLU officials have intensified mobilisation efforts, including a nationwide signature collection campaign aimed at gathering endorsements from supporters across the country.

The political activities around Muhoozi’s 2031 ambitions have continued to attract attention, with several politicians and business figures publicly expressing support for his proposed candidature.
