Police in Nakaseke district have launched a manhunt for a farm worker accused of brutally hacking his colleague to death in broad-daylight.
The crime happened at Herbert’s Farm in Nakaseke’s Kikamulo sub-county.
The suspect, identified as Nicholas Kabandize, is alleged to have attacked and killed Emmanuel Ainemukama, 30, farm manager, at around 2 pm on August 2, in Magoma village.
Savannah Regional Police PRO ASP Sam Twiineamazima, said the deceased was in the process of preparing herbicide for spraying when he was ambushed.
“It is alleged that while preparing herbicide, the victim was attacked and hacked several times by a fellow worker,” Twiineamazima said.
The attacker reportedly fled the scene immediately after the assault, leaving Ainemukama lying lifeless in a pool of blood.
The gruesome discovery was made by another worker, who alerted authorities at Kiwoko Town Council Police Station.
Officers responded swiftly and registered a case of suspected murder.
Police later transported the body to Nakaseke General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Initial findings indicate that the victim sustained multiple sharp-force injuries, particularly around the left wrist.
Investigators also revealed that the suspected murder weapon is yet to be recovered despite a thorough search at the scene.
Authorities further disclosed that tensions may have been building prior to the attack, with Kabandize reportedly having issued threats against Ainemukama. The two men are said to have been living in the same house at the farm.
“We are actively hunting for the suspect and urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station,” Twiineamazima added.
The PRO called on members of the public to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands as investigations continue.
