Police launch investigation into fatal shooting at Lira pork joint

Lira |Police in Lira City East Division have launched an investigation into a fatal shooting that took place late Monday night.

The crime resulted in one death and two injuries.

According to a statement from North Kyoga Region Police PRO SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the incident occurred on February 24, 2025, around 11:30 p.m.

SP Okema reported that unknown assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at a container pork joint near Corner Boroboro Center on the Lira Soroti highway.

According to police findings, Akello Helen, a 28-year-old resident of Barlwala Cell in Angwetangwet Ward, was killed in the attack.

“She was rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Two other victims, identified as Vivian Ayuru and Auma Marcy, sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical care,” the police statement added .

Okema confirmed that law enforcement officers, led by the Division Police Commander (DPC) for Lira City East, responded quickly to the scene, seizing and documenting evidence.

While investigations are ongoing, Okema reports that no suspects have been arrested or identified.

He also urged anyone with relevant information about the attackers to help with the investigation by reporting it to the police.

In the recently released Annual Crime Report, the North Kyoga Police Region was ranked third, with 16, 220 cases recorded in 2024.
