Amolatar archdeacon Ven. Olwa vows to lead “church-state” corruption fight

“A strong partnership” has been established between the church and the government (state) in the Amolatar district to combat public corruption.

The newly posted Anglican Archdeacon for the Amolatar Urban Archdeaconry, Venerable Vincent Olwa, officially assumed his role, pledging to collaborate closely with government officials to safeguard public finances.

He made this statement during the inaugural service as the community welcomed him.

Amolatar’s Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Obongo Magwar, greeted the new servant of God, describing his arrival as a pivotal milestone for local development.

However, Magwar swiftly shifted focus to economic security, issuing a stern warning to anyone mismanaging public funds.

Magwar expressed profound disappointment with local leaders who are undermining the Parish Development Model and resources for youth livelihoods.

He firmly warned that anyone found exploiting public funds would face severe legal consequences.

To translate words into action, Magwar announced the initiation of an assertive community anti-corruption initiative, code-named Corruption Defeated Finally Amolatar Chapter.

The campaign is set to officially commence on Monday, July 13, at 7:00 am, at the RDC’s office.

It will begin with prayers and counseling led by the new Archdeacon.

Following the launch, a permanent anti-corruption desk will be established at the Central Police Station in Amolatar.

This desk will address all public complaints related to extortion and bribery within wealth creation programs.

In his part, Archdeacon Olwa embraced his civic responsibilities.

In his inaugural spiritual message, he asserted that the church must be a “friend of the government” in the battle against greed.

The cleric astonished many by presenting a five-point checklist for Christian maturity, emphasising that patriotism and integrity are as essential as daily Bible reading and prayer.

Referencing the biblical text from Deuteronomy, Chapter 28, the Archdeacon encouraged the congregation to opt for the rewards of integrity rather than the penalties of dishonesty.
