Kampala Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Shafiq Nsubuga is currently receiving medical attention after surviving a serious road crash along the busy Entebbe Road, with reports indicating that he sustained a broken leg following the crash.

The incident has attracted concern from his colleagues, friends and members of the public, who have described his survival as a blessing.

According to reports, Nsubuga was involved in the accident after a speeding vehicle reportedly swerved while trying to avoid hitting a boda boda rider who was allegedly travelling on the wrong side of the road. The sudden change of direction by the driver is said to have resulted in the vehicle knocking Nsubuga, leaving him injured.

Sources indicate that the accident happened when the driver was attempting to prevent a bigger collision with the motorcycle rider. However, the attempt to avoid the boda boda reportedly ended with the vehicle hitting Nsubuga, who was nearby at the time of the incident.

The impact of the crash reportedly left the Kampala deputy RCC with a serious injury on his leg, which was later confirmed to be a fracture. He was immediately attended to and taken for treatment, where medical workers began managing the injuries he sustained.

News of Nsubuga’s accident quickly spread, with many people expressing relief that the official survived what could have been a fatal incident. Several people who know him have described the situation as an example of God’s protection, considering the seriousness of road crashes.

The accident has once again brought attention to the dangers faced by road users on Uganda’s major highways, especially areas with heavy traffic movement. Entebbe Road remains one of the busiest routes in the country, used daily by thousands of motorists, passengers, pedestrians and boda boda riders.

Road safety concerns have continued to increase as authorities record numerous accidents linked to speeding, reckless driving, poor judgement and failure to follow traffic regulations. Many of these crashes have resulted in serious injuries and loss of lives across different parts of the country.

Authorities have repeatedly warned motorists and motorcycle riders to exercise greater caution while using public roads. They have encouraged drivers to avoid speeding, maintain proper control of their vehicles and always consider the safety of other road users.

Boda boda riders have also been urged to follow traffic laws and avoid dangerous practices such as riding against traffic flow or using unauthorised routes. Such actions, according to road safety officials, increase the chances of accidents and put both riders and other people at risk.

The accident involving Nsubuga is another reminder of how quickly road incidents can happen and the importance of every road user taking responsibility. Even a small mistake or moment of carelessness can result in serious consequences for drivers, passengers and pedestrians.

As Nsubuga continues recovering from his injuries, messages of support have continued coming from different people who wished him a quick return to normal health. His colleagues in government and other associates have expressed concern and offered encouragement during his recovery period.

The exact details surrounding the accident are expected to be established as investigations continue into what happened before the crash. Authorities are likely to examine the actions of all parties involved, including the vehicle driver and the boda boda rider.

The incident has also renewed discussions about the need for stronger enforcement of traffic laws on major roads such as Entebbe Road. Many road users have called for increased monitoring to prevent reckless behaviour that continues to contribute to accidents.

Residents who use the route have often raised concerns about speeding vehicles, careless motorcycle riding and poor discipline among some road users. They believe more effort is needed from both authorities and the public to make roads safer.

Despite the seriousness of the accident, reports indicate that Nsubuga survived and is now focusing on recovery after receiving medical care. His condition has brought relief to those who feared the worst after learning about the crash.

Friends and well-wishers have continued thanking God for sparing his life, saying the accident could have ended differently. They have also encouraged him to remain strong as he undergoes treatment for the injuries sustained.

The incident involving the Kampala deputy RCC adds to the growing list of road accidents involving public figures and ordinary citizens alike. It highlights the fact that no one is completely protected from the dangers created by unsafe road practices.

As Uganda continues dealing with road safety challenges, experts and leaders have continued encouraging discipline among all road users. They say preventing accidents requires cooperation from drivers, riders, pedestrians and enforcement authorities.

For now, attention remains on Nsubuga’s recovery as he continues receiving care for his broken leg. Those close to him remain hopeful that he will recover fully and return to his official duties after healing.
