The territorial Police in Lira City have started investigating a case of burglary and theft reported at Lira City Central Police Station.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on April 10, 2026, at an unknown time at Teso Bar “C” Cell, Teso Bar Ward, Lira City West Division.

SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO of North Kyoga region, said the matter was reported on the same date at about 6pm by Atino Majuma, 48. She’s a businesswoman and resident of Teso Bar “C” Ward in Lira City West Division.

It is alleged that on the said date, while the complainant was asleep in her house, unknown persons broke into her residence through the door and gained access to the interior.

Upon waking up, she discovered that several household items, including a 24-inch flat screen television, a Tecno mobile phone, a backbag, and other unspecified items had been stolen.

SP Okema said the 48-year-old further observed that the door to her house had been left open and that her water meter had also been removed from its fixed position outside the house.

“The complainant initially reported the matter to local authorities and later to Starch Factory Police Station. Subsequently, she received information from one Ogwang, who directed her to a location where one Opio Dominic, a scrap dealer, operates, in connection with the suspected theft of her property,” SP Okema told reporters on Monday.

He added that three suspects have since been identified and arrested. These include Opio Dominic, 20, who is a scrap dealer and resident of Teso “A” Cell, and two juveniles, namely Ojuka Ivan, 16, and Ongom Emmanuel, 13, both residents of Tetugo Cell, Adyel Ward in Lira City West Division.

Police visited the scene of crime led by the Officer in Charge of Starch Factory Police Station, Sergeant Opio, together with a team of officers.

A total of four metallic water meters were recovered as exhibits. Statements have been recorded from relevant witnesses, and the suspects are currently in custody to assist with investigations.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects gained entry into the complainant’s house by breaking through the door from where they stole items both from inside the house and within the home compound.

It has also been established that the recovered exhibits were not all stolen from a single location, suggesting involvement in multiple theft incidents.

“Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and more details will be communicated in due course,” the PRO of the region concluded.
