Ishaa Otto Amiza: Welcoming Yoweri Museveni for elections victory in Lango

News going round confirms that President Yoweri Museveni is expected in Lango on April 18, 2026, purportedly to celebrate his election victory of January 2026.

Justice Simon Byabakama – chairperson of the Electoral Commission declared Yoweri Kaguta T. Museveni of the NRM party the overall scorer of 84% votes in Lango, the highest-ever score recorded for NRA/M in Lango.

Whereas the coming is tagged around victory celebrations, my conscience tells me President Museveni is coming to Lango for three major reasons:

● Rewarding NRM supporters/mobilizers with money while promising political appointments in the next government. No wonder, NRM cadres are fighting for visibility and recognition from the President.

● Endorsing and installing his cultural leader, “Won Nyaci” for the people of Lango for the next five years. A common practice.

● Presenting a list of pledges to Lango for the next five years to help consolidate NRM support in Lango.

Nonetheless, in welcoming President Museveni to Lango, we (the citizens of Lango) are expecting President Museveni – the head of government of Uganda to provide progress reports/plans on key promises he made to Lango during campaigns. Notably;

● The readiness by the government to host AFCON 2027 games at Akii Bua Stadium with all the amenities associated with the construction and hosting of AFCON 2027 in Lango.

● Launch of the restocking of five (5) per household following the allocation of shs80bn and setting of a committee to oversee the restocking program in Lango.

● Confirming the operationalisation of Aber District in the financial year 2026/27 in line with the NRM key campaign pledge/promise to the people of Oyam during the 2026 election campaigns at Oyam boma grounds.

● Fast-tracking cattle compensation awarded by the courts or law. Restocking shall not be substituted for cattle compensation.

● Assurance of appointing Lango to the top (5) key government positions in response to the previous claims of denying Lango top positions for not voting for NRM.

● In line with the above, I wish to remind President Museveni to pay special public rewards and recognition to some of these individuals who have sacrificed their entire lives and souls for doing everything openly or secretly to promote NRM ideals which have now brought the victory so claimed in Lango.

These individuals are;

● Lt. Gen. Francis Okello (head of Presidential Campaigns 2026)

● Ambassador Joe Ocwet (dedicated and sacrificial intelligence boss).

● Hon. Sam Engola (the sole NRA/M historical)

● Bishop Tom Ibrahim Okello (NRM religious strategist)

● Hon. Beatrice Amongi Lagada (NRM pioneer cadre in Lango)

● Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii (posthumous) for cultural co-existence with the NRM party/government).

NB: The above individuals deserve special recognition, appreciation and promotion in high political offices in line with recognition always extended to NRM historicals from other regions of Uganda not waiting for the granting of State Funerals.

In conclusion, as a citizen and an activist, I welcome President Museveni to Lango regardless of the infighting among NRM cadres over who should organise the victory party, premised on the fact that cadres expect direct financial rewards and cattle from the coming of President Museveni.

Therefore, the cadres believe that if they don’t get near the organisers, they would miss the five (5) cows rewards and money meant for identified supporters.

The infighting for money and recognition is normal in NRM for it pleases the President.

NRM cadres know that if you don’t get your share of reward now, it will take another five years to wait for campaign benefits from President Museveni.

Ishaa Otto Amiza is the former Oyam South MP and now an activist.
