Amolatar district local government council has approved the allocation of land for the construction of the prison’s church, District Internal Security Organisation (DISO’s) office and the Office of the RDC.
In a council meeting held on March 10 at the education hall, tensions rose after various motions were presented for adoption. However, the council came to an understanding a few minutes later.
The new operation maintenance framework for water under a single gazette, allocation of land for the construction of DISO’s office, prison’s church and RDC’s office were approved.
A section of councillors had earlier hesitated to support the motion on water on grounds that the local people are poor and may fail to raise the monthly installments to pay for the repair of a borehole.
Among these councillors were Okao Kizito of Agikdak, Eryao Morish of Akwon and Awongo Isaac of Abeja, among others.
They cited future fears that at some point the residents may fail to raise money, an example of shs5,000.
Calmness resumed only when the district councillor representing Etam town council, Polycarp Ogang stood in support and called for adoption of the motion concerning water maintenance.
The borehole repair fees, he said, will offload people from “accidental breakdown and repair.”
Although the same atmosphere nearly sparked off on allocation of land, a final resolution was made to allocate land for the construction of the three structures as mentioned above.
Meanwhile, LC5 chairperson Ocen Geoffrey appointed Bill Dickens Agambo, councillor for Amolatar town council as the district representative at the Sub-regional Water Supply and Service Board.
Amolatar CAO, Rhoda Oroma, expressed anger with some councillors who reject motions and programs to help local residents. She said this will make the district temain behind.
The council is set to hold two more sessions before the end of the five-year term.
