Kotido – February 16, 2022: Theatre unit at Kotido general hospital has resumed operations after a major facelift

Over 15 successful operations have so far been conducted since it resumed operation one month ago.

Two years ago the district leadership and hospital closed the theatre because the building housing it was too old and needed a proper renovation.

The unit also lacked some key theatre equipment.

Kotido municipality would later allocate shs50 million from the current financial year budget for the renovation works.

The hospital also secured shs14 million for works on the floor and purchasing the missing theatre equipment.

In an exclusive interview with Our Reporter last week, Abdullah Muhammad Lomwar, in charge of the hospital said they have so far conducted 15 successful major operations in the theatre.

He added that the operationalization of the theatre has also reduced the rate of referrals and death rates of pregnant mothers.

Why? “Because we are now managing complex cases at the hospital,” he answered.

Almost all the 15 major operations conducted involved pregnant mothers while several minor operations have also been conducted at the facility.

Last week, a team from the ministry of health led by the Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine told the hospital and district leadership that the general improvement of the hospital will be undertaken in the next financial year.

It will include more staffing at the hospital from the current 35%.
