ODPP, Kiira Police organise fourth Jinja justice baraza

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), in conjunction with the Kiira Regional Police Command, has announced that it will hold the 4th ODPP Open Day Baraza on October 27, 2025, at Our Lady of Fatima Playground, located opposite the Kiira Regional Police Headquarters along Ben Avenue in Jinja City.

The event, scheduled to start at 7:00 a.m., will run under the theme “People-Centred Justice: Tackling GBV, Land Crimes, and Refugee Protection.”

It aims to strengthen collaboration between justice institutions and the public while promoting accountability and transparency within Uganda’s criminal justice system.

According to a statement signed by Ojok Alex Michael on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Baraza serves as a public engagement forum designed to enhance dialogue and mutual understanding between the ODPP and the communities it serves.

It provides an opportunity for citizens to interact openly with justice sector actors and learn about the ODPP’s constitutional role in promoting justice, fairness, and the rule of law.

The Office of the DPP, established under Article 120 of the Constitution, is mandated to direct police investigations, institute criminal proceedings, and take over or continue criminal cases instituted by other persons or authorities.

It also partners with other justice institutions to ensure proper administration of justice and uphold the rule of law.

During the Baraza, key issues such as gender-based violence, land-related crimes, and refugee protection will be discussed. The ODPP will also address matters related to complaint handling, the appellate mechanism, and the sanctioning of police files forwarded for prosecution.

Stakeholders invited to the event include members of the security forces, the judiciary, local government officials, Members of Parliament, the banking sector, technical teams, and the general public from Jinja City and the wider Busoga sub-region.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend and actively participate in this crucial event aimed at promoting people-centred justice and strengthening trust between communities and justice institutions.
