Leo Elem, the UPC party flag bearer was duly nominated on Wednesday to contest for the Moroto County parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election.
Elem, who was re-elected as the UPC flag bearer for the 2026 general elections, is projected to receive overwhelming votes from his constituents.
His nomination was conducted by Returning Officer of the Electoral Commission Jessica Adongo Ocen at 2:00 pm at the Electoral Commission offices in Aloi town council.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Elem emphasised his commitment to strengthening trust between leaders and the people.
He outlined his focus on the core roles of a Member of Parliament: legislation, budget appropriation and approval, representation, and oversight.
The UPC candidate presented five key priorities for his campaign:
●Economic liberation
●Infrastructural development
●Improved social services
●Promoting unity among the people and;
●Embracing government programs to benefit everyone
He specifically identified education as a lagging sector and committed to raising standards, expanding access, and exposing youth to development opportunities.
Elem urged the young generation to support politicians with clear, actionable manifestos focused on real community transformation.
“Whether you supported me during the UPC primaries or not, let us come together to take Moroto County forward,” Elem said. “The most important thing is where we are going, not where we are coming from. I am your UPC flag bearer, but I will serve everyone without discrimination.”
The nomination sets the stage for what promises to be a closely watched contest in Moroto County as Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections.
Samuel Okwir Odwe of NRM is the current MP and the ruling party candidate for the same seat in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
